Old boxes...journals and memories...

Sorting through old stuff is fun! I've always enjoyed seeing my history in old journals and keepsakes. My parents have been dejunking our garage this weekend (finally! that project's been on hold for some time) so Saturday when I got home from work, I found a nice stack of boxes at the end of my bed (And I thought I'd seen the last of my stuff, apparently not!). So this Sunday afternoon I've been leisurely sorting through them, remembering my years growing up. The good times, the bad. Just all that life has held for me thus far. It's very entertaining :D

This recent box I've been sorting through contained journals and notebooks..so OF COURSE, I've stopped to take a gander at the good ol days. While reading in one of the notebooks that I use to take church notes in, I stumbled across a poem I wrote in 2004. It's about love, loving a person to be exact. And anyway it got me thinking about how many opportunities we have to give love to others. It doesn't have to be romantic love. In fact, most times it's not. So I've just been reflecting today on how important it is, no matter if we've gotten hurt or dissappointed by love, to keep giving it.

IF

If I could see you just once more
I'd jump right up and sing
Just as the sweet red robin does
when first announcing spring

And if your gentle smile
could again greet my face
I'd run each weary mile
and win the steady race

Yet, if only that warm hand of yours
Could once again hold mine
I would service all the poor
And make their faces shine

But if, my love, forevermore
There you were meant to stay
If t'was surely God's will
still content I would remain

For I believe in love
But first I trust God's sense
To believe anything above
Could be unfit precedence

So take comfort dearest
And trust in God's firm hand
That to me he'll bring you nearest
And my love to you he'll send.

Mamma Mia! and.... an epistle..

Too funny...that movie is TOO FUNNY! Caitlyn Quist and I were rolling with laughter. After watching that movie, I'm not sure that I can look at Pierce Brosnan in the same way that I use to. Shoot, the man did a complete SOLO! I had no idea he could sing. Now Colin Firth...I was aware that he could (only because he sings a little diddy with Rupert Everett in "The Importance of Being Earnest") but still...I didn't expect a full song from him. HA! crazy, crazy.

Caitlyn and I went to "Bulgogi" in Crossroads mall for some tasty Korean food before the show. Kalbi, now that's good stuff. We both reminisced about days in Provo and eating Korean food at "Sam Hawk." It's the best Korean food in Provo fo sho (hmmm only it may be the only Korean food there ;).

Huh....and I may as well continue backwards through the day....we had come from a play that a couple of Caitlyn's clients were in. Can't remember the name of the play for the life of me...but it was loosley based off of the three stooges. Three of the cast did a very good job being the Stooges. They were pretty funny. I thought the play was a great idea for people who suffer from disabilities. You could see how hard they had worked and how much they enjoyed it; how satisfied they felt. The moral of the play was that even though people have disabilities that may make them different, they are still smart, capable and able to function in the world. They may not be able to function fully the way a person without disability can, but there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to be out in the world, contributing to society. Good stuff.

Oh and prior to hangin with Caitlyn, WORK! I was attacked by a beastly filing cabinet today. Eventful.

A good poem

I Saw God Wash the World

I saw God wash the world last night
With his sweet showers on high
And then, when morning came, I saw
Him hang it out to dry

He washed each tiny blade of grass
And every trembling tree
He flung his showers against the hill
And swept the billowing sea.

The white rose is a cleaner white,
The red rose is more red
Since God washed every fragrant face
And put them all to bed.

There's not a bird, there's not a bee
That wings along the way
But is a cleaner bird and bee
than it was yesterday

I saw God wash the world last night.
Ah, would He had washed me
As clean of all my dust and dirt
As that old white birch tree.

Poems can have the most profound meanings sometimes. This one's a favorite of mine. Enjoy!

The day I began blogging....

Dun dun dun... the official..FIRST POST!

I'm entering the world of blogging. Crazy. It's amazing how technology has boomed! We're all typing about our lives. Whatever ha
ppened to the writer's hump, that journal I use to WRITE IN, the 6th grade pen pal letters. These times be changing.

Well I've got three topics to talk about for this first blog post o mine: two year olds who can sing and dance, the temple and pocky.

Meet Isabelle, a two year old that dances and sings. My mom babysat for a lady she visit teaches today, so Isabelle and her five month old brother Keoki were over at my house this afternoon.

I discovered that Isabelle could sing when she came into my room and spied me playing on my guitar. She came over all excited to try the instrument out and once she'd mastered the strumming, she began singing with the chords she was strumming. It was adorable.

Later on I found out she could dance too. I had my ipod serenading me with a bit of Ricky Martin (lol yea hadn't listened to the guy in years, thought I'd try it out again) and she just started dancing. It was cute. I joined in.

Yea so this afternoon I was bustin some moves to Ricky Martin with a two year old. Fun stuff. Try it out sometime.

Then tonight was my ward's temple night. I thought that we were doing baptisms, but in fact it was endowments we had scheduled. Luckily for me I spotted the Bellevue 8th Ward in the waiting room (who were scheduled to do baptisms), so I joined in with them and was able to have my night at the temple. I was grateful for that.

I think the temple does for your spirit, what a full day at the spa does for your body. REJUVENATION. I drove home tonight feeling just that.. rejuvenated.

Last little topic of this post. POCKY! Tasty little chocolate covered biscuit sticks. My good friend Caroline Chong introduced me to them. You buy 'em at Asian food markets like Uwajimaya. I work off of 156th in Bellevue, so Uwajimaya is a common lunch location for me. I'll often browse the candy/cookie aisles on my way out to see if there's anything tasty to snag with my Yakisoba.
